Holding LiatA Tisha B’Av Screening and Community Reflection

Holding Liat is a deeply personal and timely documentary that follows Liat and her family through an experience of unspeakable pain, fierce advocacy, and enduring hope. As we gather on Tisha B’Av, our sacred day of mourning, this film gives us a modern lens to grieve, reflect, and reaffirm our Jewish commitment to compassion, justice, and peace.

Following the screening, we’ll hold a talk-back conversation to explore the film’s themes and open space for shared reflection and healing.

Purchase tix in advance here for $18.

If still available, tickets can be purchased at the door for $24 the day of the screening.

Personal note from Rabbi Kolby

Last summer, while studying at the Shalom Hartman Institute in Jerusalem, I had the privilege of meeting Liat Atzili. Hearing her story changed me. It wasn’t just the unimaginable experience of her captivity in Gaza after the October 7th attacks. It was her humanity, her clarity, and most of all, her empathy for the Palestinian people that left me shaken and inspired.

Even after surviving deep trauma, Liat holds space for the suffering of others,  including her captors. That kind of courage, compassion, and moral clarity is something I will carry with me forever.

It’s in that spirit that I invite you to join me for a very special evening
